Blundstone Footwear is an Australian footwear company. Known mainly for its leather-based work boots, due to their flexibility and durability.
The company was founded in the 19th century by settlers who came from England to the island of Tasmania off the coast of Australia. In 1853 the brothers James and Thomas Catberston came from England to Hobart, Tasmania where they set up a shoe manufacturing and importing business. It was at this time that John and Eliza Blandstone founded the Blandstone Company in Hubert.
In 1932, the footwear company owned by the Catstone family acquired Blandstone and merged the companies under the name "Blandstone".
In 2007 the company relocated its plants from New Zealand and Australia to Thailand and India. As a result, 360 jobs were supposed to be eliminated. Following pressure from the unions, who announced that they would boycott the company's products, the plans were canceled.
